A trombone, hand grenade and a pair of lungs all made from blown glass are among the items featured in a touring exhibition due to stop off in Durham.
Breath Taking, which includes pieces by 22 artists, will be at the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery from Saturday, 9 July to Monday, 29 August.
Organised by the Crafts Council, the exhibition will include works by contemporary artists as well as five items from the council’s archive. Among the works on show will be a glass trombone created by Kate Wilson, whose work has been shown throughout Europe.
Breath Taking also includes two short films, which have been specially commissioned for the exhibition with the aim of giving visitors an insight into the process of glassblowing.
A packed programme of free family activities will also be running alongside the exhibition, with visitors invited to try their hand at activities ranging from origami and mask-making to creating stained glass paper and jewellery design.
On Monday, 22 August, there will be the chance to recreate objects from the exhibition using paper, while on Tuesday, 9 and Tuesday, 23 August, youngsters can make their own musical instruments from recycled materials.
