A community shop has opened in Chester-le-Street to promote the work of providers and organisations serving the district.
Chester-le-Street Area Action Partnership has taken a lead role in the initiative which has resulted in a high profile presence at the former Aspects shop and cafe in the middle of Front Street.
The shop will be manned over the summer period to provide information and a contact point for local residents.
Chester-le-Street and District AAP co-ordinator Andrew Megginson said: “We have been looking for new ways to promote events and the work of the AAP and having a shop right in the centre of town is the perfect answer.
“Our partners include the town’s Business Association and the police. We hope it will be a useful contact point for the general public and somewhere they can find out more about what’s going locally.”
